No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone. - Shirley Jackson, Hill House
The Control and Management Building or The CAM looms in the center of town a monument to the future from the past with its brutalist architecture cutting across the skyline from all vantage points in town. It is impossible to escape its presence in some ways. And yet on the morning of REPLACE DATE, everyone woke to find its doors shut and its safety protocols in place, with no memory as to why or how this came to pass.
The CAM is the reason they are all there, it predated every known employee and will stand long after there are employees no longer. Its architecture is impossible to comprehend, while impressive in structure there’s no way it can contain the space and dimensions found inside of it. Hallways that twist and curve for what feels like miles, cavernous spaces echoing with the the flutter of paper and the click of shoes, elevators that leave you on a floor you’ve never seen before. It’s not always easy to get around or understand the building which seems to shift and contract on its own. But employees refer to The Cam with a casualness of those used to turn the ominous into the monotonous repetition of work.

Throughout the game we as players will explore and open up the floors of The Facility. Through both random generation and player collaboration we will play to find out what lies inside its labyrinthine hallways, the purposes of its many departments and floors, and the reasons why they were sealed.

Because of the collaborative nature of the game there is not a standing map or plan for exactly what is contained in the building yet. As players we will come together to describe and uncover these secrets and then they’ll be added to documentation.
We know there are five sectors:
One sector will be opened at the beginning of each month giving the characters the opportunity to secure its departments. They may find escaped anomalies, other personnel, clues to what has happened, and other secrets and mysteries contained with the the impossible architecture of the CAM.
The primary inspiration for The Facility is Remedy’s Control’s The Oldest House, other inspirations include The Southern Reach from the Southern Reach Trilogy, The SCP Foundation, and ***House of Leaves*** by Mark Z. Danielewski.
