Each month in game will start with an activity check and plot posted in the final week of the preceding month.
There are a few elements in game that we’ll be tracking to see when things pop off. Each of these will be represented in a tracker in the monthly post.
There will be four possible missions each month. At least two will be run as IC/OOCs, which you can volunteer to run. (As a reminder this earns you an extra die that month for actions.) Those who volunteer will get to choose from the four different case files as to which they want to run. Unchosen missions will be determined by participant rolls for outcomes.
The case files contain basic information about the anomalous activity and the location they will be sent to investigate, as well as an image. Anyone running a mission IC/OOC can feel free to be flexible with the details to suit their personal taste or ideas. The case file is meant to be a launching pad more than a guideline.
You’ll be able to peruse and choose a case file in the monthly post, volunteering yourself and selecting which case to go with. Missions can be run as simply or as complex as you like, they can include meme-like writing prompts, ttrpg style rolling adventures, or simple space for interaction. The outcome of the mission will always be determined by taking the rolls of those participating and going with what the highest number of die fall into. If the majority of rolls are 6 or higher the mission is a success, if the majority of participant rolls are 5 or lower the mission is a failure. So if there are five participants using the following rolls to participate: 6, 6, 3, 2, 4, then the mission will be a failure.
Remember! Failure is just a storytelling device, the point isn’t to win, it’s to tell an interesting story. Failure might mean they don’t capture the anomaly, it might mean they do capture the anomaly but at some terrible cost, it might mean they kill the anomaly instead of capturing or saving them, it’s a flexible concept! It also doesn’t take away from individual successes, perhaps they don’t resolve the mission, but an individual may still find something useful or gain an ability or discover something about the past. You don’t need to determine how this pans out for all your participants but be sure to give opportunity for individual success and failure.
Each month there will be a few slots for recovering a memory through research or other means. These opportunities will be explained in the posting, but they will require a specific numbered roll to unlock. There will be some information available regarding ongoing plot, but there will also be slots for simply recovering a personal memory of your choice.
Expect things like ‘You encountered the Echo one week before the event.’ not things like ‘Joe tripped over a cord which later led to cascading failures of the Anomalous Containment System.’ You’ll get a prompt in which to build your answer. The solutions in this game will always be collaborative not prescriptive.
Each month we’ll be opening a new sector, each sector contains individual departments and many rooms. You’ll be told which sector will be opened as well as given a list of rooms, the dice roll required to open each room and the domain associated with each room.
