Each month you’ll have the opportunity to introduce NPCs. NPC claims should be done on the monthly post, even if done mid-month use that month’s post. NPCs will require very little in the means of application. You’ll need to give them a name, pronouns, a played-by, a department, a job, and a basic description (one paragraph or bullet points fine). You’ll also need to indicate whether you’re willing to let other people play your NPC or if you’d prefer to be the only person actually playing them. There will be a form included in the monthly post. As a reminder, creating an NPC will earn you an extra die in the month you create them.
You can either utilize the restitutionnpc account on Insanejournal to give them a few icons or create a journal yourself if you’re feeling particularly inspired. If you create a journal and you are intending to let others place your NPC be mindful of creating a password you’d be willing to share.
NPCs will be discovered in rooms within the CAM, they will not have activity requirements but you will be required to do a discovery interaction with them that month, if you begin to lean on using an NPC too much you’ll be asked to review if you wish to make them a played character. In general, the preference is that you’re creating someone anyone can reference or use without too much guilt in ways they wouldn’t someone else’s played character.
Inventing a lot of proper nouns aren’t we? Well a discovery interaction is just the when and how of the NPC being discovered within the CAM. Their memory like those in town will have been of the day before the incident and then going to bed. They won’t remember how they got into the CAM, they will have no sense that they’ve been in the CAM for longer than a few hours even though it may take months to find them.
If someone unlocks a room with an NPC you’ll need to hook up with that player and figure out how you want to do the interaction. You can do a log, you can do a simple dialogue only log, you can do a moodboard with a basic description of the events, you can simply make a little post explaining what happened, the floor is yours but something needs to be posted! You two will also need to decide when during the month they were discovered officially and note that in whatever post you make.
Once they’re discovered, you’ve now got an NPC about town. They could be anyone! That’s up to you. They might be a waitress at the diner, they might be a department director, whoever they are they’re probably going to go back to doing their job. I mean, what else do you do? Capitalism, right?
From here on out you can use this character to interact in the comms, or in IC/OOCs. Typically, you cannot send them on missions, though it’s perfectly fine to say an NPC participated or was present for a mission, playing through them is reserved for played characters with dice in the game. But otherwise, town party? Sure they can go.
You can log with them, you can comment with them, etc. But remember NPCs do not count towards activity.
